Draft Grade — Eagles

Larceny in pick No. 137 lands the Eagles a C-, Smith and all.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Eagles watched Tykee Smith slide 40 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

The James reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

Hit on Amarius Mims and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In pick No. 22 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
No edge and no loss on Ladd McConkey in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick50 Rnd2 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
They liked Jeremiah Trotter Jr. enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 50. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick97 Rnd3 DJ James
A reach on DJ James in the 97th pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick137 Rnd5 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith at Round 5, Pick 1 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick163 Rnd5 Grayson Murphy
Grayson Murphy at the 163rd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick178 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
Fair-plus on Frank Gore Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
