Draft Grade — Raiders
Overall C+
ValueC- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Raiders left with their quarterback, and a C+ to match.

The search is over. The Raiders handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

McCarthy has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Gray falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

Hit on J.J. McCarthy and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick13 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
They reached into another round for J.J. McCarthy, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick44 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
No edge and no loss on Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 44; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick77 Rnd3 Trey Benson
Trey Benson in the 77th overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick112 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at slot 112 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick150 Rnd5 Cedric Gray
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 150, where Cedric Gray graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick190 Rnd6 Julian Pearl
Julian Pearl in the Round 6 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick234 Rnd7 Xavier Thomas
A wild overpay on Xavier Thomas in pick 234, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
