FutureC+
The Texans bled value on every deal, hence the D-. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Texans shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
The cost of the Abrams-Draine reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Texans clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. The Wilson value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Keon Coleman
In pick No. 32 they get a home-run threat at receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick58
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders in Round 2, Pick 26 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick87
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
Johnny Wilson in the 87th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick88
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A slide stopped in the 88th overall pick, with Cooper Beebe worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick90
Rnd3
Leonard Taylor III
Value said wait; Leonard Taylor III in pick 90 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick95
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kris Abrams-Draine well ahead of where he belonged. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick99
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at slot 99 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick123
Rnd4
Javon Foster
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in slot 123; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick126
Rnd4
James Williams
James Williams in Round 4, Pick 26 is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick163
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
By-the-book stuff, Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick 163 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick239
Rnd7
Carson Steele
They paid up for Carson Steele at the 239th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick247
Rnd7
Devin Leary
They took Devin Leary at par in the 247th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
