Draft Grade — Bills
Overall C+
ValueC NeedB TradesC+ FutureB-
The jury is out on the Bills. For now, C+.

Some picks age like wine; Barryn Sorrell at the Round 6 slot will need to, sitting 122 spots clear of his grade.

However the rest shakes out, Barton at that price is a win they earned. Spending an early pick on cornerback with offensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. A whole weekend of picks and offensive lineman is somehow still a want.

Linebacker was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

So much rides on Malaki Starks that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick Analysis
Pick34 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
Malaki Starks is a better player than No. 34 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick62 Rnd2 Deone Walker
Deone Walker at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick65 Rnd3 Azareye'h Thomas
Azareye'h Thomas at slot 65 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick104 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
Darius Alexander at the 104th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick108 Rnd4 O'Donnell Fortune
Of all the spots to shop, they chose cornerback. O'Donnell Fortune in the 108th overall pick leaves offensive lineman, wide receiver and other spots for later.
Pick134 Rnd4 R Mason Thomas
A swing that ignored the value entirely, R Mason Thomas well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick155 Rnd5 Que Robinson
They reached a country mile for Que Robinson at pick 155, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171 Rnd5 Lander Barton
They barely believed it either: Lander Barton still on the board at the 171st pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick175 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
They took Quincy Riley at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick179 Rnd6 Cam Jackson
Value said wait; Cam Jackson in No. 179 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick206 Rnd6 Barryn Sorrell
Barryn Sorrell at pick No. 206 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick208 Rnd6 Jonas Sanker
The board had cheaper options than Jonas Sanker at Round 6, Pick 30, and it noticed. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
