Good, not great, for the 49ers: B-. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Akheem Mesidor at pick 90, a reach of 48 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
The Slaughter steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick38
Rnd2
Anthony Hill Jr.
They paid sticker price for Anthony Hill Jr. in Round 2, Pick 6, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick58
Rnd2
Caleb Tiernan
A wild overpay on Caleb Tiernan in pick No. 58, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59
Rnd2
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter slipping to No. 59 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick90
Rnd3
Akheem Mesidor
Akheem Mesidor in the 90th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick127
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Good price on Zachariah Branch in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick133
Rnd4
Chase Bisontis
Chase Bisontis at pick 133 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick138
Rnd4
Iapani Laloulu
A big swing on Iapani Laloulu at pick 138, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick171
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
They took Davison Igbinosun at par in the 171st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
