Good, not great, for the Raiders: B-. The war room fell hard for Bud Clark, and it showed at No. 173: 27 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
No drama and no debate, Arvell Reese went about where he belonged in pick No. 6. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick37
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
A reach on Olaivavega Ioane in the 37th pick; the board had better options right there. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick68
Rnd3
Antonio Williams
No edge and no loss on Antonio Williams in Round 3, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick106
Rnd4
D'Angelo Ponds
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on D'Angelo Ponds. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick114
Rnd4
Xavier Scott
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Scott at slot 114, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick135
Rnd4
Logan Jones
They took Logan Jones at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick173
Rnd5
Bud Clark
Bud Clark in No. 173 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick182
Rnd6
Lee Hunter
A wild overpay on Lee Hunter in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
Pick220
Rnd7
Trey Zuhn III
They paid a round early for Trey Zuhn III in pick 220, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
