Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB-
A franchise passer in Maye headlines a B weekend for the Patriots.

They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

The Berger pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Guyton
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Guyton at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jermaine Burton
A quiet steal in the 68th overall pick: Jermaine Burton for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cooper Beebe in pick No. 88. It fills a real need, too.
Pick103 Rnd4 Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in pick 103 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139 Rnd5 Johnny Dixon
Johnny Dixon is a better player than slot 139 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick182 Rnd6 Trey Knox
Trey Knox at the 182nd pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217 Rnd6 Darius Muasau
They took Darius Muasau at par in Round 6, Pick 42, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick224 Rnd7 Jalen Berger
They barely believed it either: Jalen Berger still on the board at pick 224. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick246 Rnd7 Myles Cole
By-the-book stuff, Myles Cole at No. 246 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
