FutureB
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Paul Jr.: B+. Thirty-one other rooms let Chris Paul Jr. slide, and the 49ers were the ones holding the card at pick 221. Highway robbery. Good, not great, and the B+ says as much.
The Weaver pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The 49ers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Good work on the whole, with offensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In pick No. 13 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value.
Pick43
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
Tyler Warren at the 43rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Omarr Norman-Lott in No. 75 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100
Rnd3
Jermari Harris
The board had Jermari Harris higher than pick 100, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick137
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
They robbed the room for Sebastian Castro here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick186
Rnd6
Cam Skattebo
Somehow Cam Skattebo was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier running back value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick221
Rnd7
Chris Paul Jr.
Chris Paul Jr. in slot 221 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick230
Rnd7
Tim Smith
They left a pile of value on the table to take Tim Smith this early at the 230th overall pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick249
Rnd7
J.J. Weaver
They reached into another round for J.J. Weaver, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick254
Rnd7
Brennan Presley
Brennan Presley in Round 7, Pick 38 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
