Draft Grade — Patriots

FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the Patriots: B. There is reaching, and then there is Oronde Gadsden II at slot 144. The Patriots jumped the board by 50 and dared it to prove them wrong. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On value alone, Rogers makes the weekend a net positive. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the 4th overall pick they get a problem off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick38
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker slid further than he should have, and slot 38 is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick69
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Dylan Sampson at the 69th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at pick 77 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106
Rnd4
Tai Felton
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tai Felton in pick No. 106. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick144
Rnd5
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II at No. 144 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick217
Rnd7
Caleb Rogers
Caleb Rogers at pick 217 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick220
Rnd7
Ricky White III
Ricky White III in No. 220 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick238
Rnd7
Dante Trader Jr.
Dante Trader Jr. at Round 7, Pick 22 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
