Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesC+ FutureB
Best value of the weekend goes to the Bengals for Hadden: B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Kamal Hadden at the 214th pick is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In Round 1, Pick 21 they get a bendy edge with upside, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Pick49 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
A quiet steal in the Round 2 slot: Troy Franklin for less than the market said. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick80 Rnd3 Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie slid further than he should have, and slot 80 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97 Rnd3 Trey Benson
Trey Benson slipping to the 97th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
Pick115 Rnd4 Leonard Taylor III
Nothing to complain about; Leonard Taylor III went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick149 Rnd5 Matt Goncalves
Steal is underselling it; Matt Goncalves at No. 149 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick194 Rnd6 Fabien Lovett
A slide stopped in pick No. 194, with Fabien Lovett worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick198 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
Tanor Bortolini at pick 198 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick214 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
Taking Kamal Hadden in pick 214 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
