Emmanwori should have been long gone. The Bears pounced, and earned a B-.

The Bears lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Reaching for James left real value on the table behind him. The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at Round 2, Pick 1 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 39 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick41 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick72 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
You do not let a running back like TreVeyon Henderson reach the 72nd pick and blink. They did not. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick148 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
A straight-up fair deal on Pat Bryant at the 148th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick233 Rnd7 Shemar James
They paid a round early for Shemar James in No. 233, more than the board wanted. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick240 Rnd7 Mac McWilliams
They took Mac McWilliams at par in Round 7, Pick 24, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
