Draft Grade — Bears
Overall F
ValueC NeedB TradesF FutureC-
The Bears bet the future on Williams. The board says F.

Some picks age like wine; Kavosiey Smoke at the Round 7 slot will need to, sitting 143 spots clear of his grade.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer.

Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick27 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick No. 27 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Brenden Rice
A big swing on Brenden Rice at slot 34, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick35 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
They took Chop Robinson at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick40 Rnd2 Kamren Kinchens
Good price on Kamren Kinchens in the 40th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick67 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
They left a pile of value on the table to take Leonard Taylor III this early at Round 3, Pick 3. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 68th pick. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick104 Rnd4 Cade Stover
Nice patience on Cade Stover, who had no business lasting to the Round 4 slot. A fine player at a spot low on the priority list.
Pick105 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in Round 4, Pick 5, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jalyx Hunt
They reached a country mile for Jalyx Hunt at pick 111, and the board is aghast. Where it fits the depth chart is the real question.
Pick123 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at pick No. 123 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick136 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in slot 136 is fair value, right on his grade. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick137 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at the 137th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick143 Rnd5 Roger Rosengarten
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Roger Rosengarten. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick182 Rnd6 De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at pick No. 182 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick188 Rnd6 Sheridan Jones
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Sheridan Jones well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick222 Rnd7 Matthew Jones
Value said wait; Matthew Jones in pick 222 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick224 Rnd7 Carson Steele
A real head-scratcher, Carson Steele in Round 7, Pick 4 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick229 Rnd7 Kavosiey Smoke
Kavosiey Smoke at the 229th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
