Draft Grade — Bills
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Bills. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Bills shredded theirs for Howard Cross III. He came off 82 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
That is a specialist worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Hairston pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still on the board. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Shavon Revel Jr.
In pick 30 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick56
Rnd2
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick62
Rnd2
Maxwell Hairston
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Maxwell Hairston while clear needs at edge rusher, quarterback and other spots sat open.
Pick108
Rnd4
Lathan Ransom
No drama and no debate, Lathan Ransom went about where he belonged in the 108th pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick131
Rnd4
Howard Cross III
They reached a country mile for Howard Cross III at Round 4, Pick 30, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick171
Rnd5
Hayden Conner
This one needs a full-page explanation: Hayden Conner in slot 171, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick175
Rnd5
CJ West
A wild overpay on CJ West in slot 175, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick179
Rnd6
Ben Sauls
They will replay Ben Sauls at pick No. 179 for years; that is how good the value is. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick206
Rnd6
Chimere Dike
Chimere Dike in the 206th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick208
Rnd6
Teddye Buchanan
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Teddye Buchanan. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
