After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need Henderson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Kris Jenkins in slot 44 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Brenden Rice at par in the 77th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A straight-up fair deal on Max Melton at the 112th pick, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A premium they did not need to pay, LaDarius Henderson a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They jumped the gun on Curtis Jacobs, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Miles Frazier in No. 234 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
