Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bears: B-. The Bears torched the value chart for Gavin Sawchuk, taking him 132 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through linebacker. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Spencer Fano
In the 9th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in pick 41 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick73
Rnd3
Keon Sabb
Keon Sabb at slot 73 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick129
Rnd4
Tim Keenan III
Nothing to complain about; Tim Keenan III went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick148
Rnd5
Braylan Shelby
They reached into another round for Braylan Shelby, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick187
Rnd6
Xavier Nwankpa
They went early on Xavier Nwankpa in the Round 6 slot, and the value did not follow. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick207
Rnd6
Barion Brown
Barion Brown in the 207th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It fills a real need, too.
Pick222
Rnd7
Elliot Washington II
The board had cheaper options than Elliot Washington II at pick 222, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick248
Rnd7
Gavin Sawchuk
Gavin Sawchuk in No. 248 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
