The Cowboys bet big and early on Jasheen Davis, 133 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
That Schwesinger pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Quinn Ewers this early at No. 44. It fills a real need, too.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Kaleb Johnson in slot 76, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joshua Gray. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Carson Schwesinger at the 168th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Cam Skattebo at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
They talked themselves into Jasheen Davis at the 173rd overall pick, and the board did not agree. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A conviction pick on Ricky White III at pick No. 186 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Hayden Conner at the 209th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jamaree Caldwell at Round 7, Pick 32 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
