Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Reaching for Wright left real value on the table behind him. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones.
The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
They paid up for Xavier Worthy at the 34th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nice patience on Ja'Tavion Sanders, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 4. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid a round early for Leonard Taylor III in pick 103, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A wild overpay on Jaylen Wright in the 139th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brennan Jackson in slot 182. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Blake Watson in No. 224; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Myles Jones in No. 232, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
