They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Vikings' quarterback, full stop. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
However the rest shakes out, McMillan at that price is a win they earned. They will need McCarthy to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the arm they will build around, a steep price for the projection. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Jonathon Brooks at par in slot 52, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the 125th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Jalen McMillan at pick 157 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They let Ty'Ron Hopper come to them and pounced at Round 5, Pick 25. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No edge and no loss on Devin Neal in pick No. 179; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good price on Brian Ugwu in No. 241, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
