Grand theft in No. 220: the Patriots steal Higgins and grade out a B.

You could see the war room lean forward. Jay Higgins at pick No. 220 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They are betting Trapilo proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Will Johnson · CB · rank 8
Will Johnson at Round 1, Pick 14 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Isaiah Bond · WR · rank 31
They did well to land Isaiah Bond in pick No. 38, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Xavier Restrepo · WR · rank 47
Xavier Restrepo at the 45th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Jayden Higgins · WR · rank 71
Jayden Higgins in pick 69 is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R3.21 · Pick 85 · Malachi Moore · S · rank 74
They read the board right and Malachi Moore was the payoff at the 85th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R4.3 · Pick 104 · Ozzy Trapilo · OT · rank 133
A real head-scratcher, Ozzy Trapilo in No. 104 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.19 · Pick 120 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 57
TreVeyon Henderson at slot 120 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R5.6 · Pick 143 · Kevin Winston Jr. · S · rank 93
Kevin Winston Jr. in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.30 · Pick 205 · Chris Paul Jr. · LB · rank 117
They will replay Chris Paul Jr. at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A minor itch, scratched.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Jake Briningstool · TE · rank 221
They took Jake Briningstool at par in pick 217, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
R7.4 · Pick 220 · Jay Higgins · LB · rank 123
They robbed the room for Jay Higgins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
R7.22 · Pick 238 · Ollie Gordon II · RB · rank 167
They barely believed it either: Ollie Gordon II still on the board at Round 7, Pick 22. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
