There is a lot to like until you notice interior defensive lineman is still a hole. The Giants never got to the one that mattered most.
Watson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 8 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Chris Braswell in No. 39 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
No drama and no debate, Tyler Guyton went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kalen King in the 51st pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Johnny Wilson in pick No. 70; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in the 107th overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A tidy little value on Kedon Slovis in slot 143, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Aki Ogunbiyi in Round 6, Pick 10 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Akheem Mesidor at No. 219 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A quiet steal in slot 240: Nathaniel Watson for less than the market said. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
