Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureD
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Texans a B-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Texans reached some 92 spots for Julius Welschof, and value like that does not grow back. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In slot 23 they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
Pick24 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In pick 24 they get a disruptor off the edge, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in the 59th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick85 Rnd3 Leonard Taylor III
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Leonard Taylor III. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick87 Rnd3 Trey Benson
Trey Benson in pick No. 87 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick123 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
Jaheim Bell in Round 4, Pick 23 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick127 Rnd4 Malik Mustapha
A reach for Malik Mustapha in the 127th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick164 Rnd5 De'Corian Clark
Value said wait; De'Corian Clark in pick No. 164 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick239 Rnd7 Tanner McLachlan
Tanner McLachlan in the Round 7 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick248 Rnd7 Julius Welschof
They talked themselves into Julius Welschof at slot 248, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
