Derek Kane DRAFTING FOR THEDolphins

Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
A
ValueA
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureA+
The Dolphins left with their quarterback, and a A to match. You build a draft on nights like this. Earl Little Jr. had no business being available in the 247th pick, and the Dolphins did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Just about everything broke right, and the A follows.
So much rides on Drew Mestemaker that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
Few war rooms will sleep better than this one tonight.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Drew Mestemaker
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44
Rnd2
Cam Coleman
Cam Coleman at pick 44 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
David Stone
David Stone at the 60th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick65
Rnd3
Will Heldt
Will Heldt slid further than he should have, and the 65th pick is lovely value for the edge rusher. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick91
Rnd3
Jamari Johnson
Somehow Jamari Johnson was still sitting there in pick No. 91, and they pounced on premier tight end value. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick105
Rnd4
Luke Montgomery
Luke Montgomery at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick112
Rnd4
Raleek Brown
A slide stopped in No. 112, with Raleek Brown worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139
Rnd5
Myles Graham
A tidy bit of business in slot 139, where Myles Graham graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
Pick146
Rnd5
Ian Moore
A straight-up fair deal on Ian Moore at pick 146, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick154
Rnd5
Anthony Evans III
They robbed the room for Anthony Evans III here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick181
Rnd6
Jayden Jackson
They will replay Jayden Jackson at the 181st pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick247
Rnd7
Earl Little Jr.
Earl Little Jr. at slot 247 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick255
Rnd7
Sheridan Wilson
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Sheridan Wilson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
