Draft Grade — Bears

A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Bears get a C. The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jacobe Covington at slot 39 regardless, 314 picks early. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.
That Harvey pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In the 10th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jacobe Covington
Jacobe Covington at Round 2, Pick 7 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41
Rnd2
Logan Parr
Logan Parr in the Round 2 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick72
Rnd3
Tate Ratledge
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tate Ratledge. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick79
Rnd3
John Williams
A wild overpay on John Williams in pick 79, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick233
Rnd7
Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. at slot 233 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick240
Rnd7
RJ Harvey
Taking RJ Harvey in pick 240 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
