The steal of the weekend belongs to the Cowboys and Allar: D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A D that will need time and luck to look better.

Reaching for Lee left real value on the table behind him. The Allar pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

In the 15th pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, even if it was a touch early.

Pick31 Rnd1 Arvell Reese

Quietly one of the better values of the day, Arvell Reese at pick 31. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.

Pick47 Rnd2 Malik Muhammad

The board had cheaper options than Malik Muhammad at Round 2, Pick 15, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.

Pick115 Rnd4 Zakee Wheatley

You do not let a safety like Zakee Wheatley reach the 115th overall pick and blink. They did not. It adds depth where they could use a little.

Pick155 Rnd5 Drew Allar

Taking Drew Allar in pick No. 155 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.

No drama and no debate, Jermaine Mathews Jr. went about where he belonged in No. 176. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.

A slide stopped in No. 250, with Robert Spears-Jennings worth more than the price. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
