Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
B
ValueC+
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Ravens answered their biggest question with Simpson. Grade: B. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Ty Simpson is the Ravens' quarterback, full stop.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped cornerback, which is a strange place to end up.
The Durant reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. However the rest shakes out, Slaughter at that price is a win they earned.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a franchise quarterback, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick14
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
In the 14th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line, though they paid up to get him. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick24
Rnd1
Caleb Lomu
In slot 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39
Rnd2
Omar Cooper Jr.
Omar Cooper Jr. at pick No. 39 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Pick45
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Nothing to complain about; Emmanuel Pregnon went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter at pick 67 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick80
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jacob Rodriguez in No. 80. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick115
Rnd4
Mike Washington Jr.
No edge and no loss on Mike Washington Jr. in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick154
Rnd5
Zane Durant
Zane Durant in No. 154 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick162
Rnd5
Eric Rivers
Eric Rivers in Round 5, Pick 22 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick173
Rnd5
Aamil Wagner
A clean, defensible pick in pick 173 with a little surplus value in Aamil Wagner. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174
Rnd5
Seth McGowan
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Seth McGowan. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
