The Dolphins bled value on every deal, hence the D-.

There is reaching, and then there is Pat Coogan at slot 218. The Dolphins jumped the board by 30 and dared it to prove them wrong. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

The Thieneman pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, tight end and other spots still on the board. Maiava at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

In the 1st overall pick they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.

In Round 1, Pick 11 they get an enforcer at safety, outstanding value to boot. More want than need.

Kayden McDonald in pick No. 37 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.

Olaivavega Ioane at slot 41 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.

A surprising call. With edge rusher, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent pick 58 on Dillon Thieneman, a safety they were not short of.

Steal is underselling it; Jayden Maiava at the Round 3 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
