Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureD
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

The 49ers did not so much draft Princewill Umanmielen as overpay for him, 48 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

They banked enough surplus on Pavia to cover a lot of smaller sins. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Denzel Boston
In pick No. 24 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Steal is underselling it; Jake Slaughter at pick 56 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88 Rnd3 Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
Pick124 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
Good price on Domani Jackson in slot 124, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick135 Rnd4 Michael Trigg
A straight-up fair deal on Michael Trigg at the 135th pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick139 Rnd4 Diego Pavia
You do not let a quarterback like Diego Pavia reach the 139th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140 Rnd4 Jadarian Price
Jadarian Price at slot 140 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick220 Rnd7 Princewill Umanmielen
A wild overpay on Princewill Umanmielen in the Round 7 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
