Lew should have been long gone. The Vikings pounced, and earned a D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Vikings did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Lew.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick Analysis
Pick8
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
A tidy little value on Jeremiyah Love in Round 1, Pick 8, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick82
Rnd3
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in No. 82 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97
Rnd3
Connor Lew
They barely believed it either: Connor Lew still on the board at pick No. 97. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick163
Rnd5
Kevin Coleman Jr.
They read the board right and Kevin Coleman Jr. was the payoff at slot 163. The roster fit checks out.
Pick196
Rnd6
Domani Jackson
Steal is underselling it; Domani Jackson at the 196th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick234
Rnd7
Jeff Caldwell
Jeff Caldwell is a better player than the 234th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick240
Rnd7
TJ Hall
TJ Hall in slot 240 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
