FutureA-
The 49ers won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Alex Birchmeier in the Round 7 slot. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Bernard pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.
Pick Analysis
Pick32
Rnd1
Christen Miller
In pick 32 they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56
Rnd2
Connor Lew
Connor Lew at pick No. 56 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick90
Rnd3
Rod Moore
They robbed the room for Rod Moore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick91
Rnd3
Germie Bernard
They will replay Germie Bernard at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick108
Rnd4
Drew Shelton
Drew Shelton slipping to No. 108 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick115
Rnd4
Charles Jagusah
Charles Jagusah in Round 4, Pick 15 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick122
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
Value with a capital V on Domani Jackson in pick 122, a genuine coup. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick139
Rnd4
Sammy Omosigho
They jumped the gun on Sammy Omosigho, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick155
Rnd5
Bray Hubbard
Steal is underselling it; Bray Hubbard at the 155th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick179
Rnd5
Gracen Halton
Gracen Halton at the 179th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick186
Rnd6
Lee Hunter
A conviction pick on Lee Hunter at Round 6, Pick 5 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick221
Rnd7
Alex Birchmeier
They reached a country mile for Alex Birchmeier at pick No. 221, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
