Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueD NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers land in the muddy middle: C+.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Derrick Moore in pick 59.

A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Hit on Trevor Goosby and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Trevor Goosby
In the 26th pick they get a blindside protector, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Derrick Moore
A real head-scratcher, Derrick Moore in pick No. 59 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick90 Rnd3 Zakee Wheatley
Zakee Wheatley is a better player than the 90th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jaishawn Barham
They did well to land Jaishawn Barham in Round 4, Pick 27, just ahead of his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jacob Rodriguez
They reached into another round for Jacob Rodriguez, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick138 Rnd4 Keylan Rutledge
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keylan Rutledge. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick171 Rnd5 Davison Igbinosun
No drama and no debate, Davison Igbinosun went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick221 Rnd7 Trey Zuhn III
Value said wait; Trey Zuhn III in Round 7, Pick 5 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick234 Rnd7 Pat Coogan
They left a pile of value on the table to take Pat Coogan this early at the 234th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
