Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Bears spent pick 248 on Gavin Sawchuk, a name most had 103 spots down the list.

Allen at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The Bears paired the rookies with proven help, T.J. Hockenson leading the way. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
