The war room fell hard for Stephen Dix Jr., and it showed at slot 234: 82 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Bullard pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th overall pick they get a load in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Sedrick Van Pran this early at the 55th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Javon Bullard slipping to Round 3, Pick 13 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Christian Mahogany at pick No. 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid up for Kris Abrams-Draine at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Jonah Monheim at slot 159, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Bru McCoy in the 190th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Isaiah Davis at par in pick No. 216, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A real head-scratcher, Stephen Dix Jr. in Round 7, Pick 14 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
