Art DRAFTING FOR THEDolphins

Draft Grade — Dolphins
Overall
B-
ValueC+
NeedB-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Dolphins kept it disciplined and banked a B-. You can draft well and still miss the point. The Dolphins did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Freeling pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Getting Fields where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Monroe Freeling
In the 11th overall pick they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick43
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
A tidy bit of business in slot 43, where Dillon Thieneman graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick75
Rnd3
Connor Lew
Connor Lew is a better player than pick No. 75 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick87
Rnd3
Malachi Fields
Malachi Fields slid further than he should have, and pick 87 is lovely value for the wide receiver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick90
Rnd3
Jacob Rodriguez
Jacob Rodriguez at the 90th pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick111
Rnd4
Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton in Round 4, Pick 11 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
