Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans checked most of the boxes and earned a B.

You can draft well and still miss the point. The Texans did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to wide receiver, which was the need that mattered most. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Landing Smith that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with running back chief among the fixes.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Olaivavega Ioane
In pick 28 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Christen Miller
Christen Miller in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick59 Rnd2 Blake Miller
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Miller. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jadarian Price
No drama and no debate, Jadarian Price went about where he belonged in No. 69. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick106 Rnd4 Genesis Smith
Value with a capital V on Genesis Smith in pick No. 106, a genuine coup. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
