Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall F
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureD
The Leigh reach set the tone, and the 49ers never recovered: F.

The 49ers spent real capital to be 59 picks early on Tristan Leigh, and the board is going to hold them to it. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on safety is the choice that costs them.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Clark pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left quarterback open, and the grade is the bill.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Jordyn Tyson
Jordyn Tyson slipping to the 30th overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick52 Rnd2 Nicholas Singleton
Nicholas Singleton at pick No. 52 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick56 Rnd2 Isaiah World
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah World at the 56th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick63 Rnd2 Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76 Rnd3 Cashius Howell
The board had cheaper options than Cashius Howell at Round 3, Pick 12, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick89 Rnd3 Aaron Graves
Aaron Graves in pick 89 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick92 Rnd3 Bud Clark
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Bud Clark in slot 92, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick103 Rnd4 Domani Jackson
They paid sticker price for Domani Jackson in the 103rd pick, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick112 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jack Endries at No. 112 is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick120 Rnd4 Evan Stewart
No edge and no loss on Evan Stewart in the 120th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick124 Rnd4 Austin Romaine
A clean, defensible pick in pick 124 with a little surplus value in Austin Romaine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick125 Rnd4 Rod Moore
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Rod Moore adds a safety and leaves quarterback untouched.
Pick128 Rnd4 Earnest Greene III
A real head-scratcher, Earnest Greene III in Round 4, Pick 26 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick129 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
A straight-up fair deal on DeMonte Capehart at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick131 Rnd4 Patrick Payton
Patrick Payton in No. 131 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick134 Rnd4 Bray Hubbard
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Bray Hubbard in slot 134 leaves quarterback for later.
Pick137 Rnd4 Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh at pick No. 137 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick167 Rnd5 James Smith
A big swing on James Smith at pick 167, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick174 Rnd5 J.Michael Sturdivant
A swing that ignored the value entirely, J.Michael Sturdivant well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick181 Rnd6 Alex Birchmeier
Alex Birchmeier at the 181st overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick206 Rnd6 Dominic Zvada
Value said wait; Dominic Zvada in the 206th pick says they were not listening. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick241 Rnd7 Jordan Hall
Jordan Hall at the Round 7 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
