Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for McNeil-Warren: B.

Somebody in the 171st pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, the No. 51 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The Onyedim pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the 31st overall pick they get an enforcer at safety at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Zachariah Branch
They did well to land Zachariah Branch in pick No. 63, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick95 Rnd3 Keyron Crawford
They reached a country mile for Keyron Crawford at slot 95, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick125 Rnd4 Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in Round 4, Pick 25 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick131 Rnd4 Isaiah World
A reach on Isaiah World in No. 131; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick171 Rnd5 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren at the Round 5 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick191 Rnd6 DJ Campbell
Quietly one of the better values of the day, DJ Campbell at the 191st pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick202 Rnd6 Josh Moten
A premium they did not need to pay, Josh Moten a notch or two before his time. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick209 Rnd6 Harrison Wallace III
Taking Harrison Wallace III in the Round 6 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick212 Rnd6 Tyler Onyedim
Value said wait; Tyler Onyedim in the 212th overall pick says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick247 Rnd7 John Michael Gyllenborg
John Michael Gyllenborg at Round 7, Pick 31 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
