The Patriots answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: B+. It is the swing that defines the weekend: Jared Wiley in pick 224, a good 205 spots before the room expected him.
Whatever Jayden Daniels becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
They banked enough surplus on Sainristil to cover a lot of smaller sins. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In the 5th pick they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Dallas Turner
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 35, where Dallas Turner graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick37
Rnd2
Javon Foster
A conviction pick on Javon Foster at No. 37 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick54
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
A big swing on Brian Thomas Jr. at pick 54, well ahead of any board in the building. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at Round 3, Pick 3 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103
Rnd4
Junior Colson
They paid up for Junior Colson at the Round 4 slot when waiting would have done the job. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick140
Rnd5
Tyler Guyton
Tyler Guyton at pick 140 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick181
Rnd6
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil in the 181st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick224
Rnd7
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley at the 224th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
