Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesC
FutureC
The Browns let Hurst fall and pounced. Final grade: C+. Call it larceny. Ted Hurst sat on the board until the Round 6 slot, and the Browns did not need to be asked twice.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. If Regis pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In the 6th pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24
Rnd1
Olaivavega Ioane
They paid sticker price for Olaivavega Ioane in the 24th overall pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick39
Rnd2
Caleb Tiernan
Caleb Tiernan at pick 39 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick60
Rnd2
D'Angelo Ponds
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where D'Angelo Ponds graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick70
Rnd3
Deontae Lawson
A straight-up fair deal on Deontae Lawson at pick No. 70, value and slot in agreement. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick107
Rnd4
Emmett Johnson
Emmett Johnson at Round 4, Pick 7 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139
Rnd5
Drew Allar
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Drew Allar. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick144
Rnd5
Albert Regis
Albert Regis at slot 144 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick147
Rnd5
Nate Boerkircher
No drama and no debate, Nate Boerkircher went about where he belonged in slot 147. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick204
Rnd6
Ted Hurst
Ted Hurst at the 204th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick248
Rnd7
Diego Pavia
Diego Pavia at pick 248 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the quarterback. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
