Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
B
ValueC+
NeedB-
TradesB+
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B for the Commanders. The Commanders clearly saw something nobody else did in Jordan Hall, taking him 68 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The Reese pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In pick No. 18 they get a downhill thumper at linebacker, and a steal at that.
Pick59
Rnd2
Lee Hunter
A straight-up fair deal on Lee Hunter at Round 2, Pick 27, value and slot in agreement. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick71
Rnd3
Malik Muhammad
They took Malik Muhammad at par in pick 71, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick82
Rnd3
Markel Bell
The board had cheaper options than Markel Bell at No. 82, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick92
Rnd3
Keylan Rutledge
A real head-scratcher, Keylan Rutledge in slot 92 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick145
Rnd5
Trey Moore
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Moore. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick165
Rnd5
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in pick No. 165 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick171
Rnd5
Patrick Payton
They left a pile of value on the table to take Patrick Payton this early at the 171st pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick185
Rnd6
John Michael Gyllenborg
John Michael Gyllenborg at pick 185 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick196
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster in slot 196 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jordan Hall
Value said wait; Jordan Hall in No. 223 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick243
Rnd7
J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
