Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesA- FutureA
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Cowboys a B+.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick 149 on Chase Lundt, a name most had 20 spots down the list. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Getting Egbuka where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Omarion Hampton
In No. 27 they get an every-down engine for the run game at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick44 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Emeka Egbuka at slot 44 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick76 Rnd3 Shemar Turner
A conviction pick on Shemar Turner at pick 76 that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick91 Rnd3 Danny Stutsman
A clean, defensible pick in the 91st pick with a little surplus value in Danny Stutsman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick149 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
They talked themselves into Chase Lundt at pick No. 149, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick171 Rnd5 Tommi Hill
The board had Tommi Hill higher than Round 5, Pick 33, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick174 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
Kyle Williams in the 174th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick176 Rnd5 Ajani Cornelius
No drama and no debate, Ajani Cornelius went about where he belonged in slot 176. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick204 Rnd6 Tyler Cooper
Tyler Cooper in Round 6, Pick 28 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick211 Rnd6 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards at No. 211 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick239 Rnd7 Bilhal Kone
Nothing to complain about; Bilhal Kone went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick247 Rnd7 Zeek Biggers
They paid sticker price for Zeek Biggers in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
