Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B-

A respectable, level-headed haul for the Bengals: B-.

The curious call sets the tone. With cornerback, tight end and other spots still glaring, the Bengals used slot 110 on Emmanuel McNeil-Warren, a safety they were not exactly short of.

For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Banks pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Caleb Downs
In the 10th pick they get a rangy last line of defense at a price that makes it sweeter. Need was not the driver here.
Pick41 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick72 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington at pick 72 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick110 Rnd4 Emmanuel McNeil-Warren
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren adds a safety and leaves cornerback, tight end and other spots untouched.
Pick189 Rnd6 Monroe Mills
No edge and no loss on Monroe Mills in the 189th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick199 Rnd6 Trinidad Chambliss
Trinidad Chambliss is a better player than Round 6, Pick 18 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick226 Rnd7 Evan Stewart
Nice patience on Evan Stewart, who had no business lasting to pick No. 226. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
