They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
The Ford value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The McCarthy pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 29 they get their quarterback of the future, though they paid up to get him. A clean fit for the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Morgan at Round 2, Pick 2 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Keon Coleman still on the board at No. 68. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy little value on Christian Mahogany in the 102nd pick, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Theo Johnson at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Circle this one: Jarrian Jones at slot 179 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 231st overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
