Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB+
The phones sank the Chiefs this weekend: D.

There is reaching, and then there is Eric Gentry at Round 6, Pick 8. The Chiefs jumped the board by 81 and dared it to prove them wrong. The math is unkind, and the D follows.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.

On value alone, Jackson makes the weekend a net positive.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Avieon Terrell
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick35 Rnd2 Kenyon Sadiq
Kenyon Sadiq slipping to slot 35 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick37 Rnd2 Caleb Banks
Caleb Banks at the 37th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick40 Rnd2 Zion Young
They jumped the gun on Zion Young, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick49 Rnd2 Caleb Tiernan
They went early on Caleb Tiernan in pick No. 49, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
No edge and no loss on Omar Cooper Jr. in pick 75; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick82 Rnd3 Malik Muhammad
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Malik Muhammad while clear needs at quarterback sat open.
Pick93 Rnd3 Jake Golday
Nice patience on Jake Golday, who had no business lasting to the 93rd overall pick. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick94 Rnd3 Blake Miller
A real head-scratcher, Blake Miller in the 94th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick107 Rnd4 Nicholas Singleton
They barely believed it either: Nicholas Singleton still on the board at the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick108 Rnd4 Monroe Freeling
No drama and no debate, Monroe Freeling went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 8. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick109 Rnd4 Jalon Kilgore
Jalon Kilgore in pick 109 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick111 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bryce Lance. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick130 Rnd4 Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor in pick No. 130 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147 Rnd5 DeMonte Capehart
Quietly one of the better values of the day, DeMonte Capehart at pick No. 147. The roster fit checks out.
Pick168 Rnd5 Bud Clark
They liked Bud Clark enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 5 slot. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick176 Rnd5 Domani Jackson
The board fumbled Domani Jackson all the way to slot 176, and they scooped it up. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick187 Rnd6 Eric Gentry
A wild overpay on Eric Gentry in pick 187, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
