FutureB-
The Eagles fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Eagles took Patrick Payton a full 67 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They banked enough surplus on Burks to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
The Joshua Palmer pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Chris Johnson
In the 26th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick35
Rnd2
Dillon Thieneman
They took Dillon Thieneman at par in Round 2, Pick 3, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Pick68
Rnd3
Max Klare
Max Klare in slot 68 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick98
Rnd3
Caden Curry
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Caden Curry well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick122
Rnd4
Deion Burks
They let Deion Burks come to them and pounced at pick 122. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick137
Rnd4
Dametrious Crownover
Dametrious Crownover in No. 137 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick153
Rnd5
Jaeden Roberts
Value with a capital V on Jaeden Roberts in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
Pick178
Rnd5
DJ Campbell
No edge and no loss on DJ Campbell in Round 5, Pick 38; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick184
Rnd6
Patrick Payton
They reached into another round for Patrick Payton, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215
Rnd6
Trey Zuhn III
Trey Zuhn III at the 215th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
