Draft Grade — Colts
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Colts: B-.

The tape said wait; the Colts did not. Red Murdock went at the 156th overall pick, a good 31 picks before the board was ready. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.

The Everette pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots. The Hecht steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick47 Rnd2 Chris Johnson
Chris Johnson slipping to No. 47 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick78 Rnd3 Daylen Everette
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Daylen Everette at cornerback with quarterback, interior defensive lineman and other spots open.
Pick113 Rnd4 Sam Hecht
Sam Hecht at Round 4, Pick 13 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick156 Rnd5 Red Murdock
Red Murdock at the 156th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick230 Rnd7 Noah Whittington
Noah Whittington in pick 230 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick249 Rnd7 Josh Cuevas
Nothing to complain about; Josh Cuevas went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick254 Rnd7 Eli Heidenreich
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Eli Heidenreich in pick 254. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
