Art DRAFTING FOR THEJets

Draft Grade — Jets

Grand theft in No. 103: the Jets steal Slaughter and grade out a B. Call it larceny. Jake Slaughter sat on the board until the 103rd pick, and the Jets did not need to be asked twice. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will need Nussmeier to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Rueben Bain Jr.
In pick 2 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick16
Rnd1
Carnell Tate
In No. 16 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick33
Rnd2
Sonny Styles
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 1: Sonny Styles for less than the market said. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick44
Rnd2
Garrett Nussmeier
They talked themselves into Garrett Nussmeier at pick No. 44, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103
Rnd4
Jake Slaughter
Circle this one: Jake Slaughter at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick140
Rnd4
Hezekiah Masses
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hezekiah Masses in slot 140. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick179
Rnd5
J'Mari Taylor
They let J'Mari Taylor come to them and pounced at the 179th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Pick194
Rnd6
Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner in the 194th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
Pick208
Rnd6
Dallen Bentley
The board had Dallen Bentley higher than slot 208, and the tight end fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick218
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
The board had cheaper options than Jalon Daniels at No. 218, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick242
Rnd7
Jalen Huskey
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalen Huskey at pick No. 242. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
