Emeritus DRAFTING FOR THEBengals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Bengals, and a B- to prove it. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bengals took Zen Michalski a full 140 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
That Green pick is the receipt they will wave around later. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
A straight-up fair deal on Arvell Reese at pick 10, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick41
Rnd2
Emmanuel Pregnon
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 41st pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick72
Rnd3
A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick110
Rnd4
Cayden Green
You do not let an offensive lineman like Cayden Green reach the 110th overall pick and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189
Rnd6
Lee Hunter
This one needs a full-page explanation: Lee Hunter in No. 189, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick199
Rnd6
Josh Moten
The board had cheaper options than Josh Moten at Round 6, Pick 18, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick226
Rnd7
Zen Michalski
They talked themselves into Zen Michalski at Round 7, Pick 10, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
