Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Patriots, and a B to prove it.

The war room fell hard for Quintayvious Hutchins, and it showed at Round 4, Pick 28: 68 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

On value alone, McGowan makes the weekend a net positive. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Dillon Thieneman
In pick 31 they get an enforcer at safety at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63 Rnd2 Jake Golday
Jake Golday at the 63rd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick118 Rnd4 Jack Endries
Nothing to complain about; Jack Endries went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick125 Rnd4 J.C. Davis
By-the-book stuff, J.C. Davis at Round 4, Pick 25 squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick128 Rnd4 Quintayvious Hutchins
They talked themselves into Quintayvious Hutchins at the 128th overall pick, and the board did not agree. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick131 Rnd4 Joe Royer
A slide stopped in the Round 4 slot, with Joe Royer worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick171 Rnd5 Ted Hurst
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ted Hurst. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick191 Rnd6 Justin Jefferson
Justin Jefferson at pick 191 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick202 Rnd6 Seth McGowan
Taking Seth McGowan in No. 202 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jeff Caldwell
A reach on Jeff Caldwell in the 209th pick; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick212 Rnd6 Keyshaun Elliott
A straight-up fair deal on Keyshaun Elliott at the 212th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick247 Rnd7 Antonio Kite
Somehow Antonio Kite was still sitting there in pick No. 247, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
