A weekend the 49ers spent ahead of the board, for worse: F.

There is reaching, and then there is Anto Saka at No. 85. The 49ers jumped the board by 30 and dared it to prove them wrong. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
