They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The 49ers indulged a want in Kilgore while a need in quarterback stayed open.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Love.

About as rough as a weekend gets on paper, with quarterback still staring back at them.
